Creating templates on a phone can be slow, especially when a document has many fields. To make it easier, BoldSign now supports AI-powered form field detection in the mobile app. It scans your PDF or Word document and automatically places the right fields, so you spend less time dragging and adjusting fields on a small screen.
When you need to e-sign on mobile, AI field detection helps you prepare templates faster right from your phone.
Why This Feature Matters for Mobile Users
When you create templates manually, you often need to zoom in, drag fields into place, and fix alignment. That effort increases when you’re working on a mobile device. With AI-based detection, the app helps you prepare templates faster so you can keep work moving without the usual back-and-forth.
This is especially helpful when you:
- Prepare templates while traveling or onsite
- Need to send documents quickly from your phone
- Work with forms that follow a standard layout
How AI Field Detection Works
When you upload a supported document, the AI looks for clear fillable markers like solid lines and recognizable shapes such as rectangles, circles, or squares. Based on these patterns, it places the appropriate fields in the right locations.
For best results, ensure your document includes clearly defined fillable areas (lines, circles, rectangles, or squares). If the AI cannot detect clear placeholders, it will not insert fields.
What Form Fields Are Supported?
Today, AI-powered field detection supports automatically placing:
- Signature fields
- Textbox fields
- Date signed fields
- Checkboxes
- Radio buttons
Things to Note Before You Start
Before using AI-based form field generation, keep the following in mind:
Supported document formats
This feature works best with text-readable PDFs or Word documents. Scanned or image-only PDFs are not supported, because the AI relies on readable text and recognizable patterns for detection.
Field placement criteria
Form fields are added only when the document contains clear structural markers such as solid lines, rectangles, circles, or squares. Blank areas, as well as dotted or dashed lines, are not recognized for field placement.
Availability
This feature is currently available to customers on our Business and Premium plans, and it is available when creating templates in the mobile app (and also supported when creating templates in the web app).

- Tap on any form field to select it and access its settings. For templates with multiple roles, you can reassign fields to a different role using the Assigned to section.

How to Remove Form Fields Generated by AI
You can adjust or delete any AI-generated form fields that are not suitable for your needs.

Tap the form field to select it, then tap the delete icon to remove it.
Remove all AI-generated fields at once
Tap the dropdown menu next to the AI icon and select Remove all AI fields. A confirmation prompt will appear. Once confirmed, all form fields added by AI will be removed.
This action will not affect any form fields that you manually placed on the document.
Conclusion
AI-powered form field detection makes template creation faster, especially on mobile devices. If your documents include clear fillable areas, the AI can place fields automatically while still allowing you to review and edit everything before saving.
If your work happens on the go, you can e-sign on mobile with BoldSign and use AI to reduce the time it takes to prepare templates.
